Our community: who we help

The Foundation serves the catchment of the Western Cancer Centre (Dubbo), an area roughly the size of Great Britain. The catchment reaches  from Mudgee and the Warrumbungles in the east to Cobar in the west, from Wellington and Cumnock in the south, to the Queensland border and beyond into the southwest reaches of Queensland.

One in eight people across our region identify as being of Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander descent, and our population is older than the state average.

Fewer than 40% of the 130 000 people who will be served by the Western Cancer Centre live in the city of Dubbo; the remainder live in small rural communities or remote settings.

A huge thank you to the Groovy Booby Bus and Dubbo local, Donna Falconer on her donation of not one but two massage chairs for the Western Cancer Centre, Wellness Room.

Congratulations to Dr Honeyball, Chair of the Western Cancer Centre Foundation Board, on being a recipient of the prestigious Jeannie Ferris Award for excellence in improving equity of cancer outcomes.

Happy first anniversary of the Western Cancer Centre's positron emission tomography–computed tomography (PET/CT) service!

As the only PET/CT scanner west of the Blue Mountains, the service has significantly improved access to this care for patients across the region, reducing their need to travel outside the District to receive scans. Along with those in the local Dubbo community, the service has made it easier for patients from areas like Cobar, Coonamble, Mudgee, Lightning Ridge, Orange and Wellington to receive scans, and many have come from outside the LHD too. The team celebrated the service's first anniversary today with a cake and morning tea at the Western Cancer Centre. A huge thanks to all the staff who make the PET service possible!
